Coordinating the walnut
The brief called for selecting the wood so the hearth and mantel would match as closely as possible in color and grain. The workshop photos show the pieces side by side, including the walnut’s natural tonal variation and figured grain. Because solid wood varies from board to board, a coordinated set still retains the individual character of each piece.
